Geovanny Vicente-Romero was invited by the University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement to speak to the Penn Model OAS students, alongside former Special Assistant to the President and NSC Senior Director for the Western Hemisphere Juan González. The students, who were debating at the Organization of American States (OAS), were eager to learn about Vicente-Romero’s work and Latin American politics.

The students did an exceptional job representing Bolivia at the WMOAS. The event took place at the Penn Biden Center, located in Washington, D.C., which is named after the 46th president of the United States, Joe Biden.

Vicente-Romero brought a wealth of experience to the discussion, having served as an election observer for the OAS Electoral Observation Mission, held two OAS fellowships, and participated in numerous programmatic initiatives, roundtables, and events focused on democracy and international relations. Since 2014, he has been part of the OAS National Hubs Anticorruption initiative and moderated the Dominican Republic’s PrepTalks ahead of the IX Summit of the Americas in February 2021. He has also held dialogues with OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro.

The event provided a unique opportunity for the students to learn from Vicente-Romero’s expertise and engage in meaningful discussions about Latin American politics and international relations.

About Geovanny Vicente-Romero:

Geovanny Vicente-Romero writes an internationally acclaimed column for CNN. He is a Washington, D.C.-based political strategist, consultant and lecturer. Geovanny teaches Strategic Communications for Professionals at Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies (SPS) where he also serves Columbia University’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Committee as a member for the year 2022-2023. At the same time, Geovanny teaches adult education students at Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School. Geovanny earned a master’s degree in political communications and strategic governance from The George Washington University and is a PhD candidate in political science and public administration at the University of Murcia, Spain.  Geovanny is the recipient of the Dominican National Youth Award for professional excellence, the nation’s highest honor for people 35 and under. Vicente-Romero is also the recipient of the Napolitan Victory Awards (Column of The Year Award 2020), granted by The Washington Academy of Political Arts & Sciences™. In 2022, he was recognized as Global Top 100 Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD – New York) – Politics & Governance (Class of 2022), following the opening of the 77th United Nations General Assembly, in New York. In 2022, Geovanny Vicente-Romero, was recognized as one of the He-For-She Champion for The Denim Club, a group of male figures that work to close the gender equality gap by promoting equity and more opportunities for the recognition and visibility of female leadership. At the same time, Vicente-Romero joined the G100 as Global Advisor on Mentoring & Motivation committee. In 2023, Geovanny was named to Leaders of Color Class of 2023. Dominicano Geovanny Vicente-Romero es orador invitado del Centro Penn Biden en honor del presidente de EE.UU.

El dominicano Geovanny Vicente-Romero fue invitado por el Centro Penn Biden de Diplomacia y Compromiso Global de la Universidad de Pensilvania para hablar con los estudiantes de Penn Model OAS (WMOAS), junto con el exasistente especial del presidente Joe Biden y director senior del Consejo de Seguridad Nacional para el Hemisferio Occidental, Juan Sebastián González.

Los estudiantes, que debatían en la Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA), estaban ansiosos por aprender sobre el trabajo de Vicente-Romero y la política latinoamericana.

Además, hicieron un trabajo excepcional representando a Bolivia en el WMOAS.

El evento tuvo lugar en el Centro Penn Biden, ubicado en Washington, D.C., que lleva el nombre del 46º presidente de los Estados Unidos, Joe Biden.

Experiencia en la OEA

Vicente-Romero aportó su gran experiencia en el marco del debate, sirviendo como observador electoral de la Misión de Observación Electoral de la OEA, obtuvo dos fellowships de la OEA y participado en numerosas iniciativas programáticas, mesas redondas y eventos centrados en la democracia y las relaciones internacionales.

Desde 2014, ha sido parte de la iniciativa de Lucha contra la Corrupción de la OEA conocida como los Nodos Anticorrupción y moderó el Diálogo de Preparación de la República Dominicana de cara a la IX Cumbre de las Américas realizada en febrero de 2021. También ha sostenido diálogos con el Secretario General de la OEA, Luis Almagro.

El evento brindó una oportunidad única para que losestudiantes aprendieran de la expertise de Vicente-Romero y participaran en discusiones significativas sobre la política latinoamericana y las relaciones internacionales.
